 Androgenic hormones cause excessive production of oil in the sebaceous gland. Dead skin cells that are unable to shed properly are trapped and form an occlusive plug which turns into a comedone. Bacteria that would normally escape become trapped inside the follicle and proliferate. As oil and bacteria accumulate, the skin swells and
